Mortuary Ministry: Did Jesus Command us to Raise the Dead?
I saw this video years ago, but recently came across it again. In watching it again I thought of at least three off-the-top-of-my head responses:
1) Why limit yourself to the mortuary? Why not the cemetery? Access to mortuaries can be difficult, but anyone can access a cemetery. They should pray for the buried to come back to life. If someone comes back from the dead at a morgue people might suspect that the recently deceased were wrongly pronounced dead and that they simply resuscitated. That kind of thing happens, it's rare, but it happens. But this wouldn't be a problem at the cemetery since no one would suspect a misdiagnosis of death in cases where people had been embalmed and buried.
2) And why do they believe that they're somehow limited in their effectiveness if they can't "access" the bodies? I thought Jesus was able to heal people even while being physically absent. Is this is not why Jesus commended the Roman soldier? The Romans soldier told Jesus he didn't need to come to his house, but simply needed to “say the word” (Matt. 8:8) and his servant would be healed?
3) And have they thought about the deceased they're praying for? What if they don't want to come back!?
